Though the leather-grain flip cover is a classy touch, make no mistake that this one is destined for the bottom bits of the full-touch featurephone market segment thanks to a middle-of-the-road TFT LCD that looks pretty washed out and low-res compared to the Wave's Super AMOLED (interestingly, the 723 is the first Bada phone to use version 1.1 of the platform, whose major addition is support for auto-scaling between multiple resolutions). We were also surprised at how poorly responsive the screen was to touches and swipes; we even thought for a moment that it might be resistive, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Then again, 802.11n support ain't bad, and Samsung certainly seems as committed to Bada as ever, so we imagine they'll sell a few. Hit up the gallery!
Facebook is bolstering the security of user accounts through the launch of a new feature that gives users the ability to see their overall account activity and remotely log out of active sessions. Have you ever logged into your Facebook at a public computer, but forgot to log out when you left? What if you left your Facebook account open at home with a snooping brother, sister or spouse? They would have access to sensitive personal information or could wreak havoc by posing as you. These are the problems that Facebook is attempting to address with the gradual rollout of remote logout. The new feature appears under the “Account Security” section of Account Settings. Account Security displays the most recent activity related to your account, including location, device name, time and device type/browser. This should give you a clue as to whether you left Facebook open at a public computer or just left it running at the office PC. That’s not all, though. To the right of any active account is a link for remotely logging out of your Facebook account. “In the unlikely case that someone accesses your account without your permission, you can shut down the unauthorized login before resetting your password and taking other steps to secure your account and computer,” the Facebook team explained in blog post published earlier today. This is a welcome security update from the world’s largest social network. For many, Facebook accounts hold information as sensitive as e-mail (and Gmail has had remote logout since 2008 ). Anything that provides more control over a user’s security is a win in our books. Have you ever wanted a remote logout feature for your Facebook account? Let us know in the comments.
Today, Apple announced updates to most of their iPod line. The most drastic of these is the 6th gen nano. The device now looks like a super-sized shuffle. It even sports the same built-in clip as the screenless wonder. The clickwheel is also gone, and replaced with a multi-touch touchscreen display. All of these changes make for a very fun looking little player. Despite the smaller form-factor, the new nano still has all of the same features as its larger predecessors including the "Shake to Shuffle" mode, and an FM tuner with a Live Pause feature. The 6th gen nano will get approximately 24 hours of battery life, and has a retail price of $148 for the 8GB, or $179 for the 16GB. While the nano says goodbye to physical controls, the 4th gen Shuffle gets to welcome theirs back. There's nothing much to talk about here, this is pretty much Apple's way of owning up to a poorly designed 3rd gen model. The new Shuffle only comes with 2GB's for $49. Finally, the iPod touch received a long overdue update that now brings it up to par with the iPhone 4. It has the same "Retina Display" (Orwellian newspeak for nice screen), as well as "FaceTime", HD video recording, and GameCenter. The new model will range from $229 for the 8GB to $399 for the 64GB.

Despite the smaller form-factor, the new nano still has all of the same features as its larger predecessors including the “Shake to Shuffle” mode, and an FM tuner with a Live Pause feature. The 6th gen nano will get approximately 24 hours of battery life, and has a retail price of $148 for the 8GB, or $179 for the 16GB. While the nano says goodbye to physical controls, the 4th gen Shuffle gets to welcome theirs back. There’s nothing much to talk about here, this is pretty much Apple’s way of owning up to a poorly designed 3rd gen model. The new Shuffle only comes with 2GB’s for $49. Finally, the iPod touch received a long overdue update that now brings it up to par with the iPhone 4. It has the same “Retina Display” (Orwellian newspeak for nice screen), as well as “FaceTime”, HD video recording, and GameCenter. The new model will range from $229 for the 8GB to $399 for the 64GB. Apple Pre-order 2010 iPods at Amazon

Problem is, those teeny tiny tinny laptop speakers aren't exactly immersive. That's where Logitech comes in with its new Laptop Speaker Z305 ($99.99, pictured above). A compact USB speaker that hangs off the open display to deliver 360-degree audio that will "fill the room," according to Logitech -- no additional software required. Otherwise, why not untether with Logitech's Wireless Speaker Z515 (pictured after the break) when it arrives for $59.99. The Z515 offers a range of about 50 feet (15 meters) over a 2.4GHz USB dongle with up to 10 hours of life from its rechargeable battery. Both will be available for purchase in the US and Europe begining this month. See the pitch in the video after the break. Gowalla Highlights is a web-based product that currently consists of 18 place-based questions that query members about their favorite date night locales, watering holes, spots for people watching or celebrity sightings, etc. The power of the product is in the aggregate. Gowalla users will be able to discover the best places in town, as determined by popular vote, and easily find new coffee spots or bars to try out when visiting a foreign city. The feature itself is both simple and enjoyable to use. Gowalla users will find the Highlights section accessible from their profile page. From here, they can respond to unique prompts and share the places where big and small life moments took place. From the Highlights page , users can then check out the places that matter to their friends and view the most popular among all members. Highlights is essentially a way to surface the best places for any given city. “We were inspired to create Highlights when we started building Gowalla for iPad. It got us thinking about how we could visualize places in interesting ways,” said CEO and Co-Founder Josh Williams. Williams also believes that Highlights will power insightful trends around places, settle local taco shop wars and have important ramifications for businesses. He also indicates that Highlights functionality and data will trickle down to the iPhone and Android apps in about a month. The idea will be to help expose members to nearby popular places — with popular determined by the number of enjoyable experiences users have had rather than total checkins. Developers can also expect Highlights data to eventually make its way inside the API. By turning on Highlights, Gowalla is tapping its current user base of 450,000 users to tell place-based stories in a way that could really drive home the utility of the mobile location-based service. But if you're feeling optimistic, a new Apple iTunes customer survey seems to offer a tiny little hint -- it lists "Titles are available to watch instantly" as a reason you might totally love watching video on the iPad. Of course, you can't watch iTunes videos "instantly" right now -- the iPad requires the entire video file to download before playback begins, and the current Apple TV requires a fair bit of buffering -- so this could be a big hint that instant streaming is coming quite soon. On the flipside, this could just be a mistake or oversight and actually mean nothing at all, but honestly, where's the fun in that? Yeah, a rad badge is all well and good, but what’s in it for you? Well, the whole deal is also a contest, the grand prize being a trip for two to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on September 12. To get in the running for the prize, all you have to do is follow MTV on Foursquare , and then check in to any music venue between August 30 and September 9. The checkin will score you that nifty badge up there, and a chance to win a trip to Cali. Already heralded as one of the top five brands on Foursquare — at least in terms of followers — MTV’s award show integration is hardly a surprise. The network has been an active participant in the realm for a while now; almost six months ago, Foursquare announced a deal with MTV & VH1 that introduced a new “Celebrity Mode,” a function that allows users to follow celebs, a la Twitter (admittedly, it hasn’t taken off). The first celebrity to hop on the geo-location band wagon was Jersey Shore ’s DJ Pauly D. According to an MTV representative, “We started with talent doing checkins and tips, and we are still doing that (the Jersey Shore cast recently provided new tips for Miami and Real World cast for New Orleans), but the change is that we’re going broader to include MTV the brand as well in areas where it makes sense. For example, MTV Music, News, Shows and Style will also be providing tips and checkins.” Integration with the upcoming award show is just a natural progression. MTV has really been ramping up its social media efforts lately; the network chose its first TJ (Twitter jockey) just a few weeks ago, and acquired social gaming company Social Express last month in order to launch games based on Nickelodeon and MTV shows and characters.
