Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, the musical short film produced for Internet distribution, got a cameo appearance in tonight’s Emmys thanks to host (and Dr. Horrible star) Neil Patrick Harris. Harris, while lauding the Internet as the “future of home entertainment”, mocks small screen sizes and the familiar “buffering” message. Alas, the show failed to deliver any viral Internet memes, ala the Kanye West / Taylor Swift interruption of last week’s VMAs. Twitter and Facebook streams on the Emmys homepage , meanwhile, indicated the increasing irrelevance of staggered broadcast slots for the East and West coast: those on Pacific time now have to actively avoid social media or risk seeing spoilers.
