BoingBoing Gadgets found this photo of the original original Ethernet cable at Xerox PARC , devised by Bob Metcalfe so he could rig up a local system for sharing things digitally. The diagram below illustrates part of what he tried to set up. What it doesn’t show, unfortunately, is how slow the network would have been compared to the average home network now.
